About Us

A funny, fabulous musical frolic is the best way to describe Kent & Rae.

Jazz standards from the 1920’s through the 60’s, and songs from the Great American Songbook are presented with humour and a lively repartee. We deliver a warm and entertaining show that keeps audiences engaged and amused.

We are regular guests at numerous retirement homes and senior centres throughout the Greater Victoria area, as well as featuring at high profile public venues, events and private parties, including:

  • The Sidney Fine Arts Show Saturday Night Soiree

  • The Shine Fashion Event at the Fairmont Empress Hotel

  • The Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation Gala at Church & State Winery

  • Vista 18 at the Chateau Victoria

  • The Sooke Fine Arts Show

  • The UVic University Club

For larger events we are joined by accomplished guitarist Gord Henderson, performing as the Shannon Rae Trio, and boast an enhanced repertoire that includes danceable tunes right through the 60's and 70's.

Whatever your event's musical requirements, whether feature performers or a tasteful melodious backdrop, we will light it up and make it shine!

"Hey Kent & Rae --- we are so glad we could hear you play tonite --- a treat.  My favourite is "cry me a river" -- holy cow -- move over Diana Krall!  Way to go you two.  So talented."  ~ Sue S.
"Your joy in the music shines through!" ~ Loretta F.

Bill Kent

Pianist Bill Kent has spent most of his 40+ year professional music career as a jazz pianist and respected music teacher, then added bass player, and he is now equally adept on bass or piano. Many of those years were spent as a solo performer and leader of a number of trios, appearing at many prestigious events and venues. Bill enjoys discovering and developing emerging talent, using his extensive experience to mentor and encourage, and is in high demand as a soloist and accompanist.

Shannon Rae

Vocalist Shannon Lee Rae first sang in front of an audience at the age of five at her grandparents’ church in Saskatchewan. She is an artist and photographer, and since lockdown has added songwriter to her resume. Shannon sings with two other groups in the Victoria area, including the duo Dos Cabezas with her guitarist husband. Jazz is her favourite genre though and best suits her voice, which is a throwback to the sound of the 40’s and 50’s. She also does a mean Marilyn Monroe impression, and has delighted countless birthday boys with her rendition of  'Happy Birthday, Mr. President'.
